Sabbats
Sabbats (High Holy Days) are the holidays of not only Wiccans, but many other pagan religions as well. There are eight sabbats throughout the year, though some practioners also have holidays honoring a particular deity. Each of the High Holy Days represent a mile-stone, if you will, in life of the Lord and Lady. These eight are then divided into Quarters and Cross-Quaters. The Quaters are Yule (winter), Ostara(spring), Litha (summer), and Mabon (fall). Each of these sabbats are either solstices or equinoxes, and all of them are associated with one of the four seasons (above).
Celebrating Sabbats:
Sabbat celebrations differ according to tradtion, coven, or the practioner. A sabbat ritual can be as simple as lighting a candle and meditating on the meaning of that specific sabbat, or extremely elaborate with ritual drama, which is like a play of the meaning of that sabbat including: costumes, props, an audiance, actors, ect. All sabbat rituals include some sort of feast at the end, this can be a four-course meal or just a bunch of munchables. Both elaborate and simple rituals can be spiritualy satisfing, it all depends on what you want to do!
Also, some covens or practioners prefer to do the same ritual for every sabbat every year, differing in only the wording, while others (including myself) prefer to have completely different rituals for each sabbat. The choice is up to you or you coven.
